Ocean Trout Canada is a steelhead company focused on the production of premium steelhead products for seafood consumers in the North American market place. We are fully integrated from hatchery to farm and have relationships with industry leading processors and distributors, allowing us to maintain strict quality controls and traceability standards throughout our value chain.
VISiON & CORE PRINCIPLES
OTC maintains the largest portfolio of Steelhead Trout licenses in North America. We maintain two hatchery facilities in Atlantic Canada, one in Brookvale, Prince Edward Island and another in St. Peters, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Both facilities produce juveniles fish for introductions to our farm sites in Newfoundland and in Nova Scotia.
Ocean Trout Canada proudly adheres to global industry standards for aquaculture production in Canada and beyond, holding leading quality certifications for our processing capabilities. We maintain a comprehensive traceability program throughout our value chain supported by 3rd party audits and reviews.
Our facilities are fed by natural ground water wells and we source the genetic material from leading industry providers that specialize in broodstock management. Ocean Trout Canada’s marine farming operations are all located in the pristine cold waters of the Canadian Maritimes, ideally suited to aquaculture activities and the production of the world’s finest steelhead.
We are committed to the responsible farming of the oceans through the implementation of comprehensive environmental management. Farmed trout are ranked as a “Best Choice” for human consumption by Monterey Bay Seafood Watch, which also describes farmed steelhead trout as one of the healthiest types of seafood that you can eat. It is rich in lean protein, vitamins, minerals and omega-3 fatty acids.
